USV Jena Herren I vs. SG Leimbach - Seamróg BC: 69:68

USV VIMODROM Basket Damen I vs. TuS Bad Aibling: 54:42

The second men's team of the USV hosted the local rivals of Science City Jena VI last Sunday. The team, coming from a close loss in the last game, was galvanized and decided to get the upper hand right from the start. A high motivation coming from the local-derby was a characteristic of the match.

The advantage was clear right away because the other team's bench was very short (only six players). Unfortunately Daniel Bieber got injured just before the start of the game. The moral was however high enough to begin the game in the right way.

The first period ran smoothly with good solutions found in good timing, expecially from David Fraenzle and Thomas Hoffmann. The center of the opponent was high in fouls after a short time, which caused a change in the game and left the zone unprotected for the USV players. The hosting team closed the first half with being in front 30:18 with a constant advantage of six points per period.

After the mid-break Philipp Rinke lead the offense for the USV with nice solo initiatives and masterful assists, breaking the rhythm of the opposing team. Tireness and the lack of man power took a toll on Science City that switched to zone defense to save energy. Unfortunately there were some more injuries: A bad clash under the rim cut both teams of key players: Thomas Hoffmann for the USV and Christian Heise for Science City VI.

The spirit was not lost despite the second bad injury on this day.  The USV took advantage of the number of available players and closed the 4th quarter with a partial of +11 (+32 in total) under the lead of experienced Captain Geisler (9 points only in this period).

The final comments of Coach Zingelmann are positive: the team played together and at its best, despite the impact the injuries might have had.

Für die USV Herren II spielten: Fraenzle (16), Geisler (13), Hoffmann (9), Rinke (9), Straub (6), Mahfoud (6), Fabbri (5), Scheel (4), Siegmann, Slowik, Meyer, Bieber
